Scientific grading of Jute and Mesta will serve the farmers and industries in a better way. Mesta is a kith and kin to jute, through not genetically. Resemblance in the physic-chemical properties of both the fibres has been observed from time immemorial and blending of the fibres can be considered as the first attempt of fibre mixing in jute and allied fibre sector. But still there remain some quantitative differences in the properties of jute and mesta and industry at large is well aware of this difference; they make blending proportion appropriately to achieve a definite product quality. The present grading system is a reproducible method of assessing the quality of fibre through determination of well identified quality parameters. The method has been widely accecpted by people in all walks of life, encompassing farmers, traders, industries, research organizations etc.The glory and glamour of this method are taking new dimension almost every now and then and though it was developed long back in 1969, no other method is available till to replace it any way. In other words, this classical method has become the base for further advancement in total quality management.
