Women in India: Social, Economic and Cultural Transitions

The present book is the outcome of sixteen articles which revolved around different issues related to women. The book provides discussion on women’s education, women’s health, women empowerment, contribution of women in societal and economic development, participation in grass roots politics, and violation of women rights, code of conduct of dress by faith etc. The articles found that despite having tremendous contribution in different fields, women are still being suppressed and oppressed in different forms of social, economic and political spheres in many parts of India. It has also explored that there is rampant poverty, lack of job opportunities, ill health, and widespread discrimination to the Indian women in all walks of life. After independence the condition of women has improved which further brought changes in the status of Indian women with provision of new opportunities for education and employment, emergence of new socio-economic pattern, and privileges of equal legal and political rights. To maintain the pace of transition that women experienced socially, economically, politically and culturally, it has to be preserved through proper rules and regulations, & empowerment strategies.
